In 2007, we attended our first competition and had just over 15 members. Since then we've been growing in numbers and competitions. Find our more about our victories below.

On the 4th of December 2010, the Harrogate Hornets attended our 4th BCA. After all the worrying about not getting there because of the snow, we all finally made it!
Once we'd got there we were all very excited and nervous, we all got in our uniforms and got our hair done. There was a lot of waiting time as we arrived before noon but weren't on until 6 o'clock. There was a lot of walking about!
When it finally got to our time on the practice mat there was a delay, so even more waiting. Then we went to get photos taken and waited for the practice mats to be free, the practice mats wasn't the best time we'd run through the routine but we were all nervous at this point. When they called out our name I didn't know whether to be excited or nervous.
Once we had started I was really enjoying it and we all worked as hard as we could! I couldn't get the smile off my face. When we'd finished we all ran off and we're so pleased we all thought it went great!
The awards were at 8pm so we just relaxed until then and went to the shop. We got a call from the bus driver who said he won't wait much longer, we packed our bags up and waited for the awards. We were up and down thinking we wouldn't be able to watch the awards luckily we did and we came 3rd out of 11 squads! We were so happy, I wish we could do it all again.
The Hornets competed at their first two day competition at the ICC competition in Nottingham. There were 14 teams in our category, Senior Level 2, and the competition was a lot harder than we were used to... (more coming soon)
We took two teams to the competition in Blackpool this year one at junior level 2 and one at senior level 2. We went on Friday night and stayed in a B&B. Even though we tried to sleep - it was hard to get any rest. The next morning we got up, got ready and went to Winter Gardens for the competition... (more coming soon)
Telford was the first competition we attended. As the date approached, excitement and tension rose because no one knew what to expect. Our team was made up of ten competitors and two reserves and as we all boarded the bus - spirits bounced - the cheers could be heard from miles around. On arrival at our hotel in Telford, our rooms were allocated and the real fun started! We all headed off to the bowling alley where we had a bowling game and some delicious pizza. When the coaches told us it was time to head back to the hotel and settle down for the night the nerves started to kick. “SETTLE DOWN”... in their dreams, jumping around, laughing and talking - some of us didn’t get to sleep until at least 3am.
In the morning - the coaches woke up a very sleepy cheer squad and we were given Easter eggs - after all it was Easter Sunday. We went down for some breakfast but all I could think about was what was lying ahead. I had already seen more cheerleaders in our hotel than I expected at the whole competition! We went back upstairs and put on our much loved uniforms, put our hair in plaits (the style we loved to hate) and our BCA badges were issued (which personally I loved). When we entered the Telford International Centre - it took my breath away. Everywhere I looked were cheerleaders smiling and laughing - now I felt like dying from nerves! Talk about butterflies! As the first of the teams started to perform I thought we were done for. As the time grew closer, the adrenaline started pumping and the nerves - oh the nerves - were killing me. We made our way to the warm up area, got our picture taken and waited in great hope for our time on the mats.
As the announcer called our name the nerves left and the biggest smile appeared from ear to ear. The music started and we took Telford by storm. By the time we finished and ran off I was shaking more than ever and tears streamed down my face. I realised what I had achieved. Now all we had to do was wait for the awards. Let’s face it, none of us expected to place in our first competition. And I decided that whatever happened - the experience had certainly changed me forever! Then it started, category after category, we knew our time was coming closer. Finally it was our turn. As the 3rd place team was called, all hopes I had were lost. My heart sank when I knew we didn’t place. But then I heard “HARROGATE HORNETS” - 2nd place! It was like slow motion... all I could think of was that we had done it, that my cheerleading team who had never competed before had just come second at a national competition. From then on I was hooked! Wherever I go now - Telford will always have a place in my heart. It has made me the cheerleader I am today. It was a fantastic day and the support we received from family and friends was so boosting. Telford 08 was really a day to remember!
